The latest report from the Samtech Transportation Index, which measures Chilean IT service companies, their monitoring and fleet management, evidenced the strong impact of the pandemic on the country's productive sector.

The sample analyzed more than 99 million kilometers traveled in the last three months by the main industries in the country.

“Many items, possibly, will have to speed up processes and internalize new forms of work, production, infrastructure and operation, after the arrival of the health crisis in Chile, which will significantly change the scope of action of these sectors in the country”, commented the general manager of Samtech, Cristián Barrientos.
According to the measurement, which collects information from March 1 to May 31, the security sector positioned itself as one of those with the greatest increase in its mobility with a 22% variation in its displacements in the period.

While, mining and health have obtained increases of 8 and 7,3%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the report highlighted large-scale mining as one of the areas that has best faced the health crisis, regarding its mobility.

This is because the industry, since the beginning of the pandemic, has not only maintained a relatively stable turnover—despite health restrictions—but has also managed to increase its travel in the recent period.

Regarding the sectors most affected by the coronavirus, the transport industry continues with its downward figures with a decrease in its kilometers traveled of 64.5% during the period from March to May 2020.

On the other hand, the cold chain area reported a surprising 19.6% decrease, despite previous measurements indicating a sharp increase in mobility at the beginning of the pandemic. This new trend indicates, according to the report, a change in people's food consumption patterns due to the health situation, with people recently opting for non-perishable or dry products.
