Chilean Samtech is acquired by Vela, a world leader in software for management solutions

  • Thanks to the operation, the Canadian Vela seeks to enhance its offer of solutions to its clients throughout the planet.

Santiago, May 2024.- Samtech, the leading Chilean software and hardware company in fleet management, machine performance and telemetrics, joined a global technology giant, after its acquisition in April by the Canadian Vela.

The operation responds to the complementarity in the solutions of both companies, which will allow them to offer comprehensive solutions to their clients around the world, mainly Latin America, where the business focus will continue to be providing excellent customer support and continuous innovation of the product.

Founded in 2007, Samtech has operations in Chile and Colombia and has more than 600 clients in a variety of industries including mining, construction, ports and fleet control. Through this agreement, Vela will distribute Samtech products globally, complementing its existing Sodep Minetrack dispatch solution with Samtech's general monitoring system for all types of equipment, along with a new capability to design and manufacture specialized sensors and technologies for data collection and decision making.

For its part, Vela has a global network and significant resources around the world, serving clients in their local languages. By joining the Vela group, Samtech gains access to Datamine's extensive infrastructure as well as its complementary solutions.

Regarding the operation, Dylan Webb, CEO of Datamine - one of Vela's subsidiaries - noted that "Samtech impressed us with its innovative technologies and its ability to monitor fleets in a wide variety of industries." He added that ""Within the Vela Industries Group, one of the fastest growing divisions is our fleet management business, which currently focuses on heavy earthmoving equipment in mining and civil construction. The complementarity between our dispatch and asset management technology and Samtech's offering will allow us to offer comprehensive solutions to our clients in Latin America and around the world."

Cristián Barrientos, CEO of Samtech, commented that “this is a new stage of growth and evolution for us, where the main beneficiaries will be our clients, who will have greater support and access to a broader portfolio of solutions, which will allow them to improve the performance of their businesses even more. I have no doubt that the quality of Samtech's solutions will allow us to expand globally in the countries where Datamine currently operates, increasing and making its regional coverage more robust."
